This article is heart-breaking. As I read, I compared the NGO-constructed tent areas in Haiti to the self-constructed Occupy camps (& an activist’s negative experience with Occupiers).

I’m reminded to be careful that my help does not become an albatross.

Do we offer our help because we want to enrich the other person or because helping serves our own ego needs? If both, which motivation prevails? And at what point do we step back from the situation with the realization that we’re causing more harm than good?
